Dynnargh/Welcome to the South West Climbing Wiki page.
The aim of this page to provide up to date information on routes in Devon and Cornwall (initially), hopefully providing a useful resource for both local and visiting climbers. The collation of all relevant information together in one location will also hopefully make life easier for the people working on future publications (currently a Devon/Cornwall supplement in 2009)
There are already two excellent resources for new route information in the South West, Dave Henderson's Javu website and the Climbers Club new routes page:
JavuClimbers Club SW New RoutesThe aim of this site is to complement these existing online resources, providing a forum for climbers to comment on existing routes, including grades, conditions, rockfall, inaccurate guidebook descriptions, state of insitu gear, etc..
There are numerous access restrictions in the South West, the definitive source for access information is via the BMC Regional Access Database:
BMC Regional Access DatabaseTide information can be found here:
Climbers Club Tide TablesThe following website is a surf forecasting site, however it contains tide information for the next 7 days as well as the all important swell forecast, useful for those more exposed venues!
MagicseaweedThis Wiki is only aimed at collating route information, for West Cornwall bouldering information, visit Andy Whall's excellent website, or the Javu website (as above):
West Cornwall BoulderingFor the Bovey Woods bouldering, there's an active wiki here:
Bovey Woods Bouldering WikiThe idea of the wiki is to shift the emphasis from the webmaster onto the users, any registered user can create and edit new pages, or add information to existing pages. This hopefully meansthe site will be much more active, with multiple contributors, resulting in a useful and active resource for all. No more emailling route updates into a site, then waitingfor someone (who's probably too busy working/climbing/having fun) to update their site - in the time it takes to tap out that email, you can have updated the site yourself!
However, this only works if users get involved. At the top of this page is a 'To Do' list, please have a look at this and take on anything you fancy, or add to the list any features/information you'd like to see on the wiki and we'll see what we can do.
Note: The wiki moderators reserve the right to moderate any contributed information or opinion which is deemed slanderous, nasty or downright incorrect..
